Forge Your Own Wilderness Axe - (Axe & Wood)
This three day workshop is a collaboration between blacksmith Alex Pole and The Wilderness Survival Guide
author Joe O’Leary.
Alex travelled to Sweden in 2014 to learn axe making at Gransfors Bruks, the world renowned axe making factory. Here he discovered a love of these tools and has spent the following years honing his skills and perfecting his style.
You will spend the first two days of the workshop in Alex's forge with skilled blacksmiths learning how to forge a single piece hatchet style axe head. After hardening, tempering and grinding you will fit an ash handle and your axe will be ready to use.
Day three will be spent with Joe learning how to use the axe safely and efficiently, cutting, splitting and carving green and seasoned wood to make various bush crafts (ash mallet, tent pegs, spatula) as well as transforming a seasoned log into all the individual components needed to create fire using just one match.
This course will be run from Alex's forge and workshop near Crewkerne in Somerset and is fully catered by a local cook, providing exceptionally tasty meals from locally sourced produce.
Camping is free in the orchard adjacent to the forge.
Please register your interest for cancellation places if they become available for this popular workshop.
